Visit in Ontario

June 24th, 2026

We arrived at Josh’s in the early afternoon, got organized, blew up our “bed” (we sleep on an air mattress) and settled in until Josh got home from work.

Then we all piled in his new Plug In Prius Hybrid and went into Bolton to catch a movie – Disclosure Day. We all enjoyed it.

Friday, Josh went to work, we hung around the house for the day other than sticking to our usual routine. Fran’s knees where the arthritis is, feel much better but now she’s suffering muscle/tendon pain for limping the past few weeks. It’s on the inner side of her knees and a bit down the leg so we’re hoping that corrects itself as she forces herself to walk normally. The grandkids arrived before dinner and went straight up to their rooms.

(as we’ve noted here before, the grandkids don’t want their photos posted and now that they have turned 13, no longer wanted to be mentioned by name and/or details of their specific time with them in these posts)

That night we celebrated a late Father’s Day, Fran’s 67th birthday, the grandkids turning 13 with an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen:

Saturday we realized our air mattress had a leak – dang!  Options were discussed and we decided to order a new better quality one from Walmart – Josh has free delivery – and it arrived that afternoon!  We set it up and it’s much more comfortable and never needed additional air the rest of the trip!  We have been looking for options for our second bedroom at home and this was so comfy, we think we’ll do the same at home!

Over our time here, we spent a bit of time the grandkids – they are now teenagers and pretty much spend their time up on their rooms.

On Sunday we got out of the house for a round of mini golf.

That afternoon we watched the first Round of 32 of the World Cup and Canada beat South Africa 1-0 to advance!  Reaching this round was the main hope of the team this year and to move on is very exciting.

On Monday Fran and her friend, Christine from north of Montreal met up around the halfway mark near Sandbanks Provincial Park for a night of catching up. The hotel was right on West Lake with Sandbanks across the way.

They had a lovely dinner on the patio that night sharing a bottle of wine and chatting. Next morning, despite the wetness from an overnight storm, they went over to the park for an early morning stroll in the dunes.

After their walk, they left the hotel around 9 and went into the town of Picton for some breakfast before heading each to our homes. It was a fun catch up and Fran always enjoys their friendship.

Doug did one of his marathon walks on Monday while Fran was away and that night he and Josh took in another movie.

We had a visit from Fran’s sister from Kingston and her hubby on Tuesday (we usually go their to see them but they kindly came this way this time). We met them in Bolton along with Josh for dinner that night. They were staying in a hotel there as there are no hotels in Tottenham, where Josh lives. Next day, the grandkids did not want to see their great aunt so we returned to Bolton without Josh, and joined them for lunch while watching the England vs Congo soccer match.

We celebrated Canada Day by heading to the Tottenham Conservation Area to eat dinner at the food trucks and stayed for the very late fireworks.

pretty good sized crowd

While they weren’t the greatest fireworks we’ve ever seen, it was pretty good for a small town in Ontario.  They last about 15 minutes and we walked back to the car where the grandkids went home with their mother and we drove every so slowly due to traffic, back to Josh’s.

Thursday night the three of us went out for dinner for an early birthday for Fran at Timo here in Tottenham – a must every time we come to visit Josh – they make amazing proper Italian pizza.

We left on Friday July 3rd to overnight in Buffalo to catch an early flight to JFK on Saturday from where we caught our Kenya Airways flight to Mauritius via Nairobi.
