I have come up from the river at Mineral Bottom after floating from Green River and it is a spooky climb. When you can get away from the crowds, it is a magical place, Moab.

Hi Sandy! Thanks for thinking of us. Yes we are safe. Missed cyclone Sean earlier this year by slowing our roll and Alfred was far enough ahead, we were not even close! We are still in the NT today, entering Queensland in two days so things should be better by the time we reach Brisbane in early April. Been a rough season for Australia this year.

We were lunching down at the old dock when we met some cruise crew who told us how to know the cruise ship schedule. We have been able to avoid the crowds much better since then. We explored the south end (Red Beach) on cruise day, and went into Fira & Oia when only one ship was docked. We stayed in Pyrgos at a BnB and by hiking to the top of town were able to have dinner and drinks overlooking the caldera as the sun set. Those steps from the old port to Fira above: I walked up them while Karen took the gondola.

That raki is disgusting to me – I do not understand the attraction.
You definitely didn’t miss much skipping the east side of Crete. Makes for a more relaxed vacay to just do day trips from a base in the west – plenty of beaches and sites to enjoy (including the young ladies!).

We spent most of our time there on the west end, but also visited Knossos and imbibed of the raki, freely offered. In fact at one little restaurant the owner was walking around after the lunch rush offering it to the remaining customers. As he poured a shot for everyone at a table, he poured one for himself. By the time he got to our table he was beginning to wobble! At Elafonissi Beach, I was distracted by some young ladies and tripped, tearing open my foot on the rock. A Frenchman came to my aide and bandaged my wound (which was oozing blood) like a boy scout with a bandana. Medcines sans Frontieres, bien sur!

We have a friend who has invited us, repeatedly, to join him at Saline Hot Springs for either Thanksgiving or New Years, but the drive in looked daunting. However, he and his wife drive in with a 1970s VW camper van! When he recommended taking 2 spare tires for both the car and the trailer, I was cowed. So I really studied your videos. Pondering.
